The Fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at UC Irvine School of Medicine, in partnership with Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), is a 3-year accredited subspecialty training program designed to provide advanced clinical and research training in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases affecting children. The program offers comprehensive exposure to inpatient and outpatient pediatric infectious disease care, including management of complex infections, immunocompromised patients, HIV, sepsis, meningitis, opportunistic infections, and antimicrobial-related conditions. Fellows receive structured training in infection prevention, antimicrobial stewardship, microbiology, laboratory medicine, and evidence-based infectious disease management. The curriculum includes approximately 14 months of clinical training and 20 months of protected research experience, allowing fellows to develop expertise through mentored research projects, quality improvement initiatives, and academic activities. The program also includes regular case discussions, core teaching conferences, microbiology/pathology rounds, journal clubs, and stewardship meetings to prepare graduates for careers in clinical practice, research, and academic pediatric infectious diseases.
