Fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology

The Pediatric Gastroenterology Fellowship Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Heersink School of Medicine provides three years of specialized training in the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal, liver, pancreatic, and nutritional disorders in infants, children, and adolescents. Fellows receive comprehensive clinical training through inpatient consultations, outpatient clinics, multidisciplinary programs, and procedural experiences, including upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, liver biopsy, capsule endoscopy, and other pediatric gastrointestinal procedures. The program also provides exposure to inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology, intestinal rehabilitation, nutrition, eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders, and pancreatic diseases, along with opportunities for research and academic development.

1. Apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Pediatric Gastroenterology is one of UAB's fellowship programs that uses ERAS.
2. Submit the ERAS Common Application Form.
3. Submit three letters of recommendation, including one from the Department Chair or Residency Director.
4. Submit USMLE Steps 1, 2 and 3, or COMLEX Levels 1, 2 and 3, as applicable.
5. Submit a personal statement.
6. Submit an updated curriculum vitae and medical school transcript.
7. Complete the required NRMP Applicant Agreement and participate in the fellowship Match.
8. Selected applicants proceed through the interview and selection process before Match Day.
