Fellowship in Pain Medicine

• Must have completed or be completing an ACGME-accredited residency program
• Must be eligible for ABMS certification in Pain Medicine through an approved primary specialty
• Eligible residency backgrounds include:
• Anesthesiology
• Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
• Neurology
• Psychiatry
• Other ABMS-recognized specialties eligible for Pain Medicine certification
• Must fulfill the requirements for entry into a U.S. Graduate Medical Education (GME) fellowship program
• Must have completed required postgraduate medical training before starting the fellowship
• Applicants should have an interest and clinical experience in pain management, interventional procedures, and multidisciplinary patient care
• International medical graduates must meet applicable U.S. GME requirements for fellowship training

The Fellowship in Pain Medicine at UC Irvine School of Medicine (UCI), Irvine is a one-year ACGME-accredited multidisciplinary fellowship program that provides advanced training in the diagnosis, evaluation, and comprehensive management of acute and chronic pain conditions. The program focuses on developing expertise in evidence-based pain care, interventional pain procedures, opioid management, and multidisciplinary approaches to pain treatment. Fellows receive hands-on clinical experience in areas such as nerve blocks, spinal cord stimulation, neuromodulation, ultrasound-guided procedures, intrathecal drug delivery systems, and other advanced pain management techniques. The training includes rotations across various specialties, outpatient pain clinics, acute pain services, research activities, case conferences, journal clubs, and quality improvement projects to prepare fellows for independent practice in pain medicine.
