Fellowship in Pain Medicine

1. MD/DO or equivalent medical degree
2. Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in one of the following:
3. Anesthesiology
4. Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
5. Neurology
6. Psychiatry
7. Emergency Medicine
8. Family Medicine
9. Radiology
10. Applicants from other residency specialties may also be considered upon request.
11. Must be Board Eligible or Board Certified in the primary specialty.
12. 3 letters of recommendation are required, including:
13. 1 letter from the applicant’s residency program
14. 2 additional letters
15. USMLE or COMLEX scores are required.
16. J-1 visa sponsorship is available; H-1B sponsorship is not available.

The Pain Medicine Fellowship at the University of Minnesota Medical School is a 1-year multidisciplinary fellowship providing advanced training in the evaluation and management of acute, chronic, and cancer-related pain. Fellows receive comprehensive clinical experience in outpatient pain management, interventional procedures, inpatient consultations, palliative care, addiction medicine, and regional anesthesia across multiple training sites. The program also emphasizes the biopsychosocial and interdisciplinary approach to pain, with regular didactic sessions, case conferences, journal clubs, and grand rounds. Approximately 45% of training is outpatient clinical care, 45% interventional procedures, and 10% inpatient consultations/palliative care.
