Fellowship in Pain Medicine

1. Candidates must have successfully completed a residency program in Anesthesiology, Neurology, or Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation before beginning the fellowship.
2. The fellowship is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
3. Fellows must meet the requirements for satisfactory completion of the fellowship and eligibility for Pain Medicine board certification through the applicable certifying pathway.

The Pain Medicine Fellowship Program at UAB Heersink School of Medicine is a one-year advanced fellowship providing comprehensive training in the evaluation and management of acute, chronic, and cancer-related pain. Fellows gain extensive experience in interventional pain procedures such as epidural injections, nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation, spinal and peripheral nerve stimulation, intrathecal pump management, and ultrasound-guided procedures. The program combines hands-on clinical training with multidisciplinary pain management, patient care, research, teaching, and quality improvement activities, preparing fellows for independent practice in Pain Medicine.
