Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology

The Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at UNC School of Medicine, Chapel Hill is an advanced subspecialty training program designed to provide comprehensive clinical and procedural expertise in catheter-based cardiovascular interventions. The fellowship focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of complex cardiovascular diseases through minimally invasive techniques, including coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), structural heart interventions, intracoronary imaging, and hemodynamic assessment. Fellows receive extensive hands-on training in cardiac catheterization laboratories, inpatient and outpatient cardiovascular care, multidisciplinary case discussions, research activities, and mentorship from experienced interventional cardiologists. The program prepares physicians to independently perform advanced cardiovascular procedures and manage patients with complex coronary and structural heart conditions

1. Applicants must submit their application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
2. Applications are reviewed by the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Selection Committee.
3. Required application documents generally include:

• Completed ERAS application
• Curriculum Vitae (CV)
• Personal statement
• Medical school transcript
• USMLE/COMLEX scores (as applicable)
• Letters of recommendation (including a letter from the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program Director)
• ECFMG certification documents for eligible International Medical Graduates (IMGs)

1. Eligible candidates are shortlisted based on academic background, clinical training, procedural experience, and interest in interventional cardiology.
2. Selected applicants are invited for interviews with the fellowship program faculty.
3. Final selection is completed through the fellowship appointment/matching process as applicable.
4. Selected fellows begin advanced training in interventional cardiology procedures, including cardiac catheterization, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), structural heart interventions, and complex cardiovascular procedures
