Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology

• Must have completed Internal Medicine Residency Training
• Must be board-certified or board-eligible in Internal Medicine
• Must meet the eligibility requirements for advanced cardiovascular fellowship training
• Must have a California medical license before beginning the fellowship
• Must be a U.S. citizen or fulfill residency/visa requirements before starting the fellowship
• H-1B visa sponsorship is not accepted by the program.

The Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at UC Irvine School of Medicine is a one-year advanced fellowship program designed to provide specialized training in catheter-based cardiovascular interventions and prepare physicians for independent practice in interventional cardiology. The program focuses on the evaluation and management of patients with complex cardiovascular diseases, including coronary artery disease, acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, valvular heart disease, structural heart disease, and peripheral vascular disease. Fellows receive intensive procedural training in coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), intracoronary pressure monitoring, peripheral vascular interventions, valvular procedures, and adult structural heart interventions. The fellowship provides extensive hands-on experience, with fellows expected to perform a minimum of 250 coronary interventions during the training year. Training takes place at UCI Medical Center, UCI Douglas Hospital, and MemorialCare facilities, with opportunities to participate in clinical research, conferences, and multidisciplinary cardiovascular care. The program prepares graduates for board certification in Interventional Cardiology and careers as independent interventional cardiologists.
