The Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship at UAB Heersink School of Medicine is a one-year, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited fellowship providing comprehensive clinical and educational training in adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology. Fellows gain experience in complex cardiac and thoracic procedures, including coronary revascularization, valve surgery, major aortic reconstruction, adult congenital heart disease, ventricular assist devices, heart and lung transplantation, robotic cardiac surgery, and structural heart interventions. The program places strong emphasis on perioperative transesophageal echocardiography, with 12 weeks of dedicated training, along with critical care, thoracic anesthesia, interventional cardiology, and elective rotations. Fellows also participate in teaching, quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical research.
