Overview
The Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship at the University of Minnesota Medical School is a one-year advanced fellowship designed to prepare anesthesiologists for independent management of complex adult cardiothoracic patients. Training includes extensive exposure to cardiac and thoracic surgery, heart and lung transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, complex aortic surgery, structural heart procedures, and high-risk coronary revascularization. Fellows also receive advanced training in perioperative transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), cardiopulmonary bypass, and extracorporeal circulatory support, along with protected academic time for research, quality improvement, teaching, and professional development.

Eligibility
- Must have successfully completed an ACGME-accredited anesthesiology residency.
- Canadian applicants may qualify after completing RCPSC/CFPC-accredited training in Canada.
- Exceptionally qualified applicants without an accredited residency may be considered in rare cases.
- Applicants considered under the exceptional pathway must have satisfactory USMLE Steps 1, 2 and, if eligible, 3.
- International medical graduates must have ECFMG certification.

Admission Process:
- Apply through the SF Match Centralized Application Service (CAS).
- Complete the Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology fellowship application through SF Match.
- Submit three letters of recommendation.
- Submit the program distribution list.
- Pay the required SF Match registration/application fees.
- Participate in the SF Match process for fellowship placement.
