Family Medicine Residency

1. Medical degree: Applicants must have graduated from medical school within the past 5 years
2. Examinations: Passing USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 (or equivalent COMLEX examinations), ideally by the second attempt
3. Academic documents: Medical school transcript and Dean’s Letter/MSPE are required
4. Recommendation letters: At least 3 letters of recommendation from faculty supervisors
5. Personal statement: Required as part of the ERAS application
6. Interview: Required for applicants selected by the program
7. International Medical Graduates: Must have a valid ECFMG Certificate
8. IMG clinical experience: Minimum 6 months of U.S. or equivalent clinical experience with significant patient-care responsibility; observerships/externships without direct patient-care responsibility are not accepted
9. Applicants must meet applicable Massachusetts medical licensure and UMass Chan GME credentialing requirements

The Family Medicine Residency Program at UMass Chan Medical School, Worcester is a 3-year, full-spectrum family medicine residency combining university-based education with community-based clinical training. Residents train at one of three health centers and provide longitudinal care to their own patient panels. Training covers primary and preventive care, inpatient medicine, pediatrics, women's health and maternity care, behavioral health, addiction medicine, urgent/emergency care, geriatrics and procedures. The program also offers individualized electives, quality improvement, research and academic development opportunities.

2. Provide the required transcript, Dean’s Letter/MSPE, USMLE/COMLEX scores, 3 recommendation letters and personal statement
3. International applicants must additionally provide ECFMG certification and required clinical-experience documentation
4. Eligible applicants are invited for an interview
5. The program fills PGY-1 positions through the NRMP Match
6. Applicants may rank one, two or all three participating health centers, but must interview at each health center they intend to rank
