Overview
The Family Medicine Residency Program at Reading Hospital is one of the most experienced family medicine residencies in the United States with a history spanning over 45+ years. It provides broad, balanced training across ambulatory, inpatient, obstetric, behavioral health, and community medicine care, serving a diverse patient population from urban, suburban, and rural settings. Residents care for patients of all ages, from newborns to elderly adults, within the Family Health Care Center — which operates under a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model — as well as on the family medicine inpatient service. Clinical experiences include preventive care, chronic disease management, primary care procedures, women’s health, pediatrics, geriatrics, behavioral and addiction medicine, and population health initiatives. The curriculum integrates evidence-based medicine, scholarly activity, and hands-on procedural training while preparing residents for certification by the American Board of Family Medicine. Leadership, community service, research opportunities, and collaboration with an experienced and diverse faculty further enrich the educational environment.

Residents receive a competitive salary/stipend based on postgraduate year (PGY) level, along with benefits such as a CME allowance, food allowance, and other GME-defined perks.

Eligibility
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
- Valid USMLE or COMLEX scores
- ECFMG certification for international graduates
- Participation in ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service)
- Participation in the NRMP (Match) process
- Successful interview and selection by the program.

Admission Process:
- Prepare Application Materials: Updated CV, personal statement, medical school transcript, USMLE/COMLEX scores, letters of recommendation.
- Apply via ERAS: Submit a complete application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
- Participate in Interviews: Eligible applicants are invited to interview with program faculty.
- NRMP Match: Register and participate in the National Resident Matching Program, ranking preferred programs.
- Match Results: Receive match results on Match Day.
- Onboarding: Complete credentialing, licensing requirements, and hospital orientation.
- Program Start: Begin residency training, typically in July.
