The Family Medicine Residency Program at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is a three-year ACGME-accredited residency program designed to train physicians in comprehensive, patient-centered primary care across all age groups. The program provides extensive clinical training in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, emergency medicine, geriatrics, behavioral health, and community medicine through inpatient and outpatient rotations. Residents gain hands-on experience managing diverse medical conditions in an urban healthcare environment, with emphasis on preventive care, continuity of care, culturally sensitive medicine, and addressing the healthcare needs of Brooklyn’s diverse communities. The curriculum includes supervised clinical practice, academic conferences, research activities, quality improvement initiatives, and elective opportunities to develop specialized interests within family medicine.
