Family Medicine Residency

1. Graduation from an accredited medical school with a recognized MD or DO degree (or equivalent foreign qualification with recognition).
2. Completion (or completion soon after application) of a first‑year intern/clinical year as required.
3. Registration with Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and participation in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
4. Valid medical licensing eligibility for the U.S. state of Oklahoma (e.g., ECFMG certification for international graduates).
5. Strong academic performance, USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) or equivalent scores, letters of recommendation, and evidence of sincere interest in Family Medicine.

The Family Medicine Residency Program at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine is a three‑year postgraduate clinical training program designed to prepare physicians for comprehensive primary care practice. The curriculum integrates outpatient continuity clinics, inpatient care, preventive medicine, community health, and leadership in patient‑centered care. Residents rotate through diverse clinical environments including ambulatory care, obstetrics, inpatient wards, geriatrics, pediatrics, rural health, emergency medicine, and specialty electives, fostering broad diagnostic and management skills. A structured learning schedule includes didactic education, simulation, lifestyle medicine, quality improvement projects, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Residents gain expertise in chronic disease management, preventive services, procedural skills, population health principles, and patient‑family communication. Graduates are equipped for board eligibility with the American Board of Family Medicine and are well‑prepared to serve in various healthcare settings — from urban clinics to rural communities — offering leadership in community health systems.
