Emergency Medicine Residency Program

The Emergency Medicine Residency Program at UCSF School of Medicine, San Francisco is a 4-year ACGME-accredited residency program designed to train physicians in the comprehensive management of acute illnesses, trauma, and emergency medical conditions. The program focuses on developing advanced skills in the immediate recognition, evaluation, stabilization, and treatment of critically ill and injured patients. Residents receive clinical training at major UCSF-affiliated emergency care sites, including Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG), with exposure to high-acuity emergency cases, trauma care, critical care, pediatric emergency medicine, emergency ultrasound, and resuscitation medicine. The curriculum emphasizes clinical excellence, leadership development, research, quality improvement, scholarly projects, and professional growth, preparing graduates for independent emergency medicine practice and eligibility for the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) certification pathway.
