Emergency Medicine Residency Program

The Emergency Medicine Residency Program at UC Irvine School of Medicine, Irvine is a three-year ACGME-accredited residency program that provides advanced clinical training in the evaluation, diagnosis, stabilization, and management of acute and critical medical conditions. The program offers comprehensive exposure to emergency care, trauma management, critical care, pediatric emergencies, resuscitation, point-of-care ultrasound, and emergency procedures through training at high-volume clinical sites including a Level I Trauma Center. Residents participate in structured educational activities such as conferences, simulation training, case discussions, journal clubs, and faculty-led teaching sessions, developing the clinical expertise, decision-making skills, and leadership abilities required for independent practice in emergency medicine.

1. Applicants must submit their application through ResidencyCAS
2. The program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP)
3. A complete application must include:

• Completed ResidencyCAS application form
• Three Letters of Recommendation (LoRs)
• Two Standardized Letters of Evaluation (SLOEs) from Emergency Medicine rotations are highly recommended
• Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
• Medical school transcripts
• USMLE/COMLEX examination transcripts
• Personal statement

1. Applications are reviewed by the Emergency Medicine Residency Selection Committee
2. Selected candidates are invited for interviews
3. Final candidates are ranked and submitted through the NRMP Match process
4. Matched candidates complete required institutional documentation before starting residency training
