Emergency Medicine Residency Program

The Emergency Medicine Residency Program at the University of Illinois College of Medicine (UICOM), Chicago is a 3-year ACGME-accredited residency program designed to provide comprehensive training in emergency and acute care medicine. The program offers extensive clinical experience across multiple emergency departments, including academic, trauma, and community-based settings, allowing residents to manage a wide range of medical, surgical, and critical care emergencies. Training includes rotations in areas such as trauma, critical care, pediatric emergency medicine, toxicology, emergency ultrasound, EMS, cardiology, obstetrics, and disaster medicine. The curriculum combines hands-on patient care, simulation training, didactic conferences, procedural education, and scholarly activities to develop skilled emergency physicians capable of providing high-quality care in diverse clinical environments.

1. Application Review

• The Emergency Medicine Residency Selection Committee reviews applications holistically based on applicants’ ability, aptitude, academic credentials, and extracurricular achievements.

1. Interview Process

• Selected candidates are invited for a virtual interview with the residency program.

1. NRMP Match Registration

• Applicants must register with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and submit rank order lists.

1. Final Selection & Joining

• Candidates are selected through the NRMP Match process and complete onboarding formalities before starting residency training.
