The Child Neurology Residency Program at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is a comprehensive five-year categorical training program conducted in partnership with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago and McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University. The program has developed a strong reputation for educational excellence, clinical innovation, and physician mentorship. Residents complete two years of foundational pediatrics training before progressing into three years of specialized child neurology education. A distinctive feature of the curriculum is the integration of the ACGME-required adult neurology experience throughout all three neurology years, allowing trainees to begin child neurology-focused learning from the start of their specialty training. Clinical exposure includes inpatient neurology services, epilepsy programs, neurocritical care units, neuromuscular clinics, neurogenetics, neuroimmunology, neuro-oncology, movement disorders, and pediatric stroke management. The program offers extensive elective opportunities in areas such as neuroradiology, sleep medicine, rehabilitation medicine, neurosurgery, genetics, and research. Residents participate in structured didactic lectures, board review sessions, EEG training, simulation-based education, multidisciplinary conferences, and scholarly research activities. The large pediatric neurology division includes more than 35 faculty neurologists and a broad multidisciplinary team, providing trainees with exposure to a wide spectrum of neurological diseases and cutting-edge therapies. Graduates are well prepared for board certification, subspecialty fellowships, academic medicine, clinical practice, and physician-scientist careers.
