Pediatric Residency Program

• Must have an MD / DO or equivalent medical degree from an accredited medical school
• Must meet eligibility requirements for Graduate Medical Education (GME) training at UNC
• International Medical Graduates (IMGs) must have:
• Valid ECFMG certification
• Required USMLE examination completion
• Applicants must demonstrate interest in pediatric medicine and child healthcare
• Strong academic performance, clinical experience, professionalism, communication skills, and commitment to pediatric care are considered during selection
• Applicants must be eligible to obtain required North Carolina medical licensure before starting residency training
• Candidates must meet all requirements for participation in the NRMP Main Residency Match

The Pediatric Residency Program at UNC School of Medicine (UNCSOM), Chapel Hill is a three-year ACGME-accredited residency program designed to provide comprehensive training in the care of infants, children, and adolescents. The program offers extensive clinical experience through rotations in general pediatrics, newborn care, pediatric emergency medicine, pediatric intensive care, and multiple pediatric subspecialties at UNC Children’s Hospital and affiliated healthcare facilities. Residents develop expertise in preventive care, acute and chronic disease management, developmental and behavioral pediatrics, and family-centered healthcare. The curriculum emphasizes clinical excellence, evidence-based medicine, research, quality improvement, advocacy, and professional development, preparing graduates for careers in general pediatrics, pediatric subspecialty fellowship training, academic medicine, and community pediatric practice.
