About Course

The Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Residency Program at NYU Grossman School of Medicine is one of the leading surgical training programs in the United States. The residency is designed to develop highly skilled surgeons capable of managing complex disorders involving the ear, nose, throat, airway, head, and neck through comprehensive clinical education, advanced operative experience, and academic development.
Residents train across multiple NYU Langone Health institutions including Tisch Hospital, Kimmel Pavilion, NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, Bellevue Hospital Center, the VA NY Harbor Healthcare System, and specialized outpatient surgical centers. These facilities provide access to diverse patient populations and a broad range of complex surgical and medical cases.
The curriculum provides progressive responsibility throughout five years of residency training. Residents gain experience in head and neck cancer surgery, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, pediatric otolaryngology, rhinology and sinus surgery, otology and neurotology, laryngology, airway reconstruction, sleep surgery, and skull base procedures.
A major strength of the program is its extensive operative exposure. Residents participate in high-volume surgical cases using advanced technologies including endoscopic sinus surgery systems, robotic surgical platforms, image-guided navigation systems, cochlear implantation technology, laser surgery equipment, and skull base surgical techniques.
The residency places strong emphasis on multidisciplinary patient care through collaboration with specialists in neurosurgery, oncology, radiology, endocrinology, pulmonology, speech-language pathology, audiology, plastic surgery, and radiation oncology. This integrated approach enhances both clinical training and patient outcomes.
Academic development is an important component of the program. Residents participate in grand rounds, tumor boards, journal clubs, cadaveric dissection courses, simulation laboratories, morbidity and mortality conferences, research meetings, and subspecialty educational conferences. Dedicated mentorship supports scholarly activity, publications, and national conference presentations.
The Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at NYU Langone is internationally recognized for innovation in skull base surgery, head and neck oncology, hearing restoration, facial reconstruction, and minimally invasive surgical techniques. Residents work closely with nationally recognized faculty members who contribute to major advances in the field.
