The Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine is a comprehensive five-year postgraduate clinical training program designed to develop highly skilled orthopedic surgeons. Residents receive extensive hands-on experience in trauma, adult reconstruction, sports medicine, spine surgery, pediatric orthopedics, hand surgery, foot and ankle surgery, and orthopedic oncology exposure. The program emphasizes progressive surgical responsibility, evidence-based practice, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Training occurs across tertiary care hospitals, trauma centers, and outpatient orthopedic clinics, providing exposure to both elective and emergency orthopedic conditions. Structured academic teaching, cadaveric labs, simulation training, and research opportunities are integral to the curriculum. Residents are actively involved in teaching medical students and junior trainees. Graduates are well prepared for American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) certification and for careers in academic medicine, subspecialty fellowships, or advanced orthopedic practice.
