The Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is an ACGME-accredited five-year residency designed to prepare surgeons for excellence in clinical practice, academic medicine, and orthopedic research. Residents receive progressive responsibility while training at nationally recognized institutions including Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, and Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. The curriculum combines extensive operative experience with structured didactic education, simulation training in the NCASE laboratory, fracture management courses, cadaveric skills laboratories, journal clubs, and multidisciplinary conferences. Residents gain broad exposure to every major orthopaedic subspecialty while participating in a structured research curriculum with dedicated mentorship and scholarly milestones throughout training. The program also provides physician-scientist development opportunities through the Starzl Academy and emphasizes leadership, innovation, evidence-based practice, and compassionate patient care. Graduates are well prepared for American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery certification and competitive fellowship training across all orthopaedic subspecialties.
