Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program

For U.S. Medical Graduates

1. Completed Residency CAS application.
2. Minimum 3 letters of support from medical school faculty; 1 should be in SLOE format.
3. USMLE Step 1 and Step 2, if available; no minimum score required.
4. COMLEX scores are accepted in place of USMLE Step 1/Step 2.
5. Personal statement.
6. ACGME-accredited medical school transcript with all scores passing.
7. Must be within 1 year of medical school graduation.

For International Medical Graduates (IMGs)

1. Completed Residency CAS application.
2. Minimum 3 letters of support from medical school faculty.
3. USMLE Step 1 and Step 2, if available; no minimum score required.
4. COMLEX scores accepted in lieu of USMLE Step 1/Step 2.
5. Personal statement.
6. Medical school transcript with all passing scores.
7. Minimum 6 months of U.S. clinical experience or U.S. residency; observerships and volunteer experience do not count.
8. Must be less than 5 years out of medical school, except applicants with U.S. experience.
9. Must be ECFMG certified.
10. Must hold/be eligible for a J-1 visa; the medical school does not sponsor H-1B visas.

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at the University of Minnesota Medical School is a four-year residency providing broad training in all aspects of women’s health, obstetrics, gynecology, and gynecologic surgery. Residents develop clinical and technical skills across outpatient care, emergency services, inpatient units, operating rooms, and delivery rooms, while also gaining experience in evidence-based medicine, healthcare systems, teaching, and patient advocacy. The program offers strong obstetrical and surgical training across multiple clinical sites and exposure to a diverse patient population.
