Overview
MD – General Medicine is one of the core postgraduate clinical programmes in medical education, designed to produce competent physicians with in-depth knowledge of adult diseases and systemic disorders. The programme emphasizes comprehensive patient care, clinical reasoning, and multidisciplinary coordination across specialties such as cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology, nephrology, and infectious diseases. Training typically includes bedside teaching, ward rounds, outpatient services, emergency care, academic discussions, and research work. Residents develop skills in diagnostic evaluation, evidence-based treatment planning, and long-term patient management.
At present, Shija Academy of Health Sciences (SAHS), Imphal offers only the MBBS programme and does not conduct postgraduate MD/MS courses, including MD – General Medicine. Any future introduction of postgraduate programmes would require formal approval from the National Medical Commission and notification by the institute.
