Hematology & Oncology Fellowship

• MD (Doctor of Medicine) or equivalent degree
• Completion of a 3-year ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine residency
• Must be Board-certified or Board-eligible in Internal Medicine
• Completion of USMLE exams
• Eligible to obtain a California medical license before starting
• Must have strong clinical background + letters of recommendation
• International applicants:
• Must have ECFMG certification
• J-1 visa sponsorship is accepted

The Hematology/Oncology Fellowship at UC Irvine School of Medicine is a three-year, ACGME-accredited program that provides comprehensive training in the diagnosis and management of blood disorders and cancers, preparing physicians for careers in both clinical practice and academic medicine. Fellows receive extensive exposure through training at major centers including the UC Irvine Medical Center, the NCI-designated Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the VA Long Beach Healthcare System, ensuring experience with a diverse and complex patient population. The program emphasizes a strong balance between clinical care and research, with opportunities to participate in numerous clinical trials and develop skills as clinical investigators. Overall, the fellowship is designed to build expertise in multidisciplinary cancer care, hematologic diseases, and evidence-based treatment approaches, leading to board certification and advanced specialization in hematology and oncology.
