Fellowship Program in Breast Imaging

1. Applicants must hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or equivalent medical degree.
2. Applicants must have completed an accredited radiology residency before starting the fellowship.
3. Applicants must be eligible for or certified by the American Board of Radiology (ABR).
4. Applicants must obtain a California medical license before beginning the fellowship.

The University of California San Diego (UC San Diego) School of Medicine provides advanced medical education, clinical training, and research opportunities through its Department of Radiology. The 12-month Breast Imaging Fellowship offers comprehensive training in screening and diagnostic mammography, digital breast tomosynthesis, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and molecular breast imaging. Fellows gain hands-on experience in image-guided breast procedures, including ultrasound-guided, stereotactic, tomosynthesis-guided, and MRI-guided biopsies. The program also includes multidisciplinary tumor board discussions, clinical research, teaching, and collaboration with specialists in breast surgery, oncology, and pathology to support accurate diagnosis and high-quality patient care.

4. Participate in the Breast Imaging Fellowship Match, sponsored by the Society of Breast Imaging and managed by the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
5. The program reviews completed applications and contacts selected candidates regarding interviews and next steps.
