The Breast Imaging Fellowship at NYU Grossman School of Medicine is a highly specialized one-year fellowship offered through the Department of Radiology's Division of Breast Imaging. The program accepts four fellows annually and provides comprehensive training in all aspects of breast imaging and intervention. Fellows work alongside experienced breast imaging radiologists and gain extensive exposure to screening and diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasound, breast MRI, and advanced breast imaging technologies. Clinical training takes place at high-volume facilities including NYU Langone's Perlmutter Cancer Center, Laura Perlmutter Center for Women's Imaging, and NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue. These facilities collectively perform more than 50,000 mammograms, 20,000 breast ultrasound examinations, 2,000 breast MRI studies, and hundreds of MRI-guided breast procedures annually. Fellows develop expertise in image-guided procedures such as fine-needle aspiration, breast biopsy, needle localization, stereotactic-guided biopsy, ultrasound-guided biopsy, and MRI-guided interventions. The curriculum includes dedicated breast imaging conferences, multidisciplinary oncology meetings, journal clubs, mentorship opportunities, and elective rotations. Research is strongly encouraged, with fellows collaborating on projects related to breast cancer detection, artificial intelligence, precision medicine, advanced MRI techniques, and breast imaging innovations. Graduates are well prepared for careers in academic radiology, comprehensive breast centers, cancer institutes, and advanced private practice settings.
