About Course

The UCSF Transplant Hepatology Fellowship is an ACGME-accredited 1-year advanced clinical training program designed to prepare physicians for specialized careers in hepatology and liver transplantation. The program provides comprehensive multidisciplinary training in the management of advanced liver diseases, liver transplant candidates, and post-transplant recipients through inpatient and outpatient clinical experiences. Fellows gain expertise in liver transplantation evaluation and care, hepatology consultations, liver biopsies, endoscopy, management of hepatocellular carcinoma, immunosuppression, and complex liver disorders. The fellowship also includes structured didactic education, multidisciplinary conferences, and scholarly activities to fulfill ABIM requirements for Transplant Hepatology board eligibility and prepare fellows to practice as transplant hepatologists.

Admission Process

Submit the application through the AASLD (American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases) Application Portal
Complete and submit all required application materials through the portal
Applications are reviewed by the UCSF Transplant Hepatology Fellowship Selection Committee
Selected applicants are invited for virtual interviews
Final selection is completed by the fellowship program based on applicant qualifications and interview performance
The program offers up to 3 fellowship positions annually through the traditional pathway (3 years GI + 1 year Transplant Hepatology) or accelerated pathway (available only for UCSF GI fellows)
