Fellowship in Transplant Hepatology

• MD / DO or equivalent medical degree
• Completion of Internal Medicine Residency
• Completion of an ACGME-accredited Gastroenterology Fellowship (3 years)
• Must be Board Eligible / Board Certified in Gastroenterology
• Eligible to obtain required medical licensure in North Carolina (USA)
• Demonstrated interest and experience in advanced liver disease and liver transplantation
• Strong academic background with interest in clinical research and transplant medicine
• International medical graduates must fulfill ECFMG certification and visa requirements (if applicable)

The Transplant Hepatology Fellowship at UNC School of Medicine is an advanced subspecialty training program focused on the diagnosis and management of advanced liver diseases and liver transplantation. The fellowship provides comprehensive clinical exposure to liver transplant evaluation, pre-transplant and post-transplant patient care, cirrhosis management, hepatobiliary disorders, acute liver failure, and complications related to liver transplantation. Fellows receive training through inpatient and outpatient hepatology services, transplant clinics, multidisciplinary transplant meetings, and research activities. The program emphasizes advanced clinical decision-making, transplant medicine, immunosuppression management, evidence-based hepatology practice, and academic development, preparing physicians for careers as transplant hepatologists in academic medical centers and specialized liver transplant programs.
