Fellowship in Pediatric Surgery

1. Completed an ACGME-accredited General Surgery residency
2. Valid U.S. medical licensure and eligibility to train in the U.S.
3. Successful completion or eligibility for the board examination in general surgery
4. Participation in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) pediatric surgery match process

The Pediatric Surgery Fellowship at Lurie Children’s Hospital is a two-year accredited postgraduate surgical training program that prepares fellows for independent practice in pediatric surgery. Based primarily at Lurie Children’s — one of the leading pediatric hospitals in the U.S. — and affiliated with Northwestern University’s McGaw Medical Center, fellows gain broad experience in surgical management of congenital and acquired diseases across newborns, infants, children and adolescents. Fellows learn with a focus on operative skills, perioperative care, multidisciplinary collaboration, and evidence-based practice while rotating through pediatric surgery services and intensive care units. Training also includes didactic teaching, case conferences and mentorship from expert pediatric surgeons. The program’s goal is to develop clinical competence, surgical judgment, technical proficiency and professional readiness for leading roles in pediatric surgery practice or academic medicine.
