The Advanced Cardiac Surgery Fellowship at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is a one-year non-ACGME advanced fellowship conducted at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute, one of the highest-volume cardiac surgery centers in the United States. Fellows choose from three specialized training tracks that provide intensive experience in complex structural heart surgery, advanced heart failure and transplantation, or robotic cardiac surgery. The fellowship offers exposure to a large volume of complex procedures, including mitral valve repair, aortic root reconstruction, thoracoabdominal aortic surgery, heart transplantation, ventricular assist device implantation, ECMO, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, and transcatheter valve interventions. Fellows work closely with expert cardiac surgeons across the Northwestern Medicine network while participating in clinical research, multidisciplinary heart team conferences, and academic teaching activities, preparing them for leadership roles in advanced adult cardiac surgery.
