Structural Heart Disease Fellowship

The Structural Heart Disease Fellowship at UNC School of Medicine, Chapel Hill is an advanced clinical training program focused on the diagnosis, management, and treatment of complex structural heart conditions. The fellowship provides specialized training in minimally invasive cardiovascular procedures, advanced cardiac imaging, and multidisciplinary heart team-based care. Fellows gain expertise in structural interventions including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), mitral and tricuspid valve therapies, left atrial appendage closure, ASD/PFO closure, and other emerging catheter-based treatments. Through clinical rotations, procedural experience, case discussions, research activities, and mentorship from experienced cardiovascular specialists, fellows develop the skills required to independently manage patients with structural heart disease and perform advanced interventional cardiovascular procedures.

1. Applications are reviewed by the Structural Heart Disease Fellowship Selection Committee.
2. Shortlisted candidates are invited for interviews with program faculty.
3. Final selection is based on clinical background, procedural experience, academic achievements, and suitability for advanced structural heart training.
4. Selected fellows undergo advanced training in structural heart procedures, including transcatheter valve therapies, structural imaging, procedural planning, and multidisciplinary heart team management.
