Fellowship Hospice & Palliative Medicine

1. Must be a current resident or a practicing physician eligible to pursue subspecialty certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine after completing fellowship training.
2. Must have completed or be completing residency training in an eligible specialty, such as Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, Neurology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Surgery, or another qualifying specialty.
3. International medical graduates must meet the Medical Board of California's medical licensure requirements.
4. Applicants holding a J-1 visa must already have a current California medical license; applicants requiring an H-1B visa are not accepted.

The Fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine provides advanced training in symptom management, pain relief, and supportive care for patients with serious illnesses. Fellows gain experience in inpatient and outpatient palliative care, hospice services, and interdisciplinary patient management. UC San Diego School of Medicine is part of the University of California San Diego, a public research university in California. In collaboration with Scripps Health and affiliated hospice organizations, the program combines clinical training, education, and research to improve patient comfort and quality of life.

1. Apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
2. Search for the program under the name University of California (San Diego) Medical Center.
3. Submit the completed application and required supporting documents through ERAS.
4. Register for the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Specialties Matching Service.
5. Submit the application by September 18, 2026, or earlier if interview slots are filled.
6. Attend the virtual interview if invited.
7. Submit your rank list and participate in the matching process. For the 2027–2028 academic year, the match is scheduled for December 2, 2026.
