Overview
The Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is a one-year ACGME-accredited program designed to develop physicians who excel in the care of patients with serious illness. Fellows gain experience in inpatient consultation, outpatient palliative care, hospice, and community-based settings while working within interdisciplinary teams that include nurses, social workers, chaplains, and other specialists. The curriculum emphasizes expert symptom management, compassionate communication, ethical decision-making, and support for patients and families throughout the continuum of care. Fellows participate in didactic sessions, quality improvement initiatives, and scholarly activities under the guidance of experienced faculty mentors. Graduates are well prepared for leadership roles in academic palliative care, hospice medicine, and community practice.

Fellows receive a PGY-level salary according to the McGaw Medical Center stipend schedule and are provided health, dental, vision, liability, retirement, paid leave, and CME benefits.

Eligibility
- MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree.
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in an approved specialty.
- Board eligible or board certified.
- Eligible for Illinois medical licensure.
- Submission of a completed application, CV, personal statement, and letters of recommendation.
- Successful completion of interviews and credentialing requirements.

Admission Process:
- Complete an accredited residency in an approved primary specialty.
- Apply through ERAS and, if applicable, the NRMP Match.
- Submit all required application materials.
- Participate in faculty interviews.
- Upon selection, complete Illinois licensure, credentialing, and onboarding before starting the fellowship.
