The Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Fellowship at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is a one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship based at the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute and Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The program offers comprehensive training in advanced heart failure management, heart transplantation, pulmonary hypertension, and mechanical circulatory support. Fellows participate in the care of a high-volume transplant program performing approximately 30–35 heart transplants annually and implanting more than 60 durable ventricular assist devices each year. They gain extensive experience in cardiogenic shock management, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, right heart catheterization, endomyocardial biopsy, transplant evaluation, donor management, and long-term post-transplant care. The curriculum combines intensive clinical training with protected research time, multidisciplinary conferences, and mentorship, preparing graduates for leadership roles in academic medicine and advanced heart failure programs.
