Radiation Oncology residency

The Radiation Oncology Physician Residency Program at UC Irvine School of Medicine is designed to train future leaders in radiation oncology through comprehensive clinical training, research opportunities, and advanced cancer care education. The program focuses on developing expertise in radiation therapy, cancer biology, treatment planning, radiation physics, radiobiology, and multidisciplinary oncology management. Residents receive hands-on training through supervised clinical rotations, tumor boards, quality assurance meetings, educational conferences, and research activities. As part of the NCI-designated UCI Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, residents gain exposure to complex cancer cases, advanced radiation technologies, clinical trials, and innovative treatment approaches. The curriculum emphasizes patient-centered care, evidence-based decision-making, professionalism, communication skills, and leadership development. Residents also participate in clinical, translational, biological, or medical physics research with faculty mentorship, preparing graduates for careers as independent radiation oncologists, academic physicians, and oncology leaders.

7. Matched applicants begin residency training in July after completing required preliminary clinical training
