Plastic Surgery Integrated Residency Program

The Plastic Surgery Integrated Residency Program at UCSF School of Medicine is a 6-year clinical residency providing comprehensive integrated training in both core general surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery. The first three years combine general surgical, related specialty, and plastic surgery rotations, followed by 36 months focused primarily on plastic surgery across multiple clinical sites. Training covers diverse areas of plastic surgery, with progressively increasing operative responsibility and autonomy. Residents also receive dedicated academic development opportunities, including research or advanced-degree work, and participate in clinical, translational, global health, and surgical education research.

1. Apply through ERAS electronically.
2. Submit the Common Application Form (CAF).
3. Submit a current CV and personal statement.
4. Submit medical school transcript(s) and Dean's Letter/MSPE.
5. Submit 3 letters of recommendation, with a Chair letter recommended if possible.
6. Submit official NBME/USMLE score transcripts for Step 1 and Step 2, if available.
7. International medical graduates must additionally provide ECFMG certification, applicable visa/residency documentation, and the required California Medical Board authorization documentation.
8. UCSF reviews applications and selects qualified candidates for interviews based on academic preparation, aptitude, career goals, leadership potential, technical skills, professionalism, communication, and related factors.
9. The program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP); positions are not offered outside the Match except through SOAP during Match Week.
10. Successful applicants enter the 6-year integrated residency program. UCSF currently accepts three candidates per year for the standard integrated program.
