The Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, in partnership with Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, is an ABPTRFE-accredited post-professional residency designed to develop advanced clinical specialists in neurologic rehabilitation. The program integrates intensive patient care with structured didactic education, one-on-one mentoring, research, and teaching. Residents train within one of the world's leading rehabilitation hospitals, gaining experience across the continuum of neurologic care, including inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient services, and specialised innovation centres. Clinical exposure includes the management of patients with stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, vestibular disorders, and other complex neurological conditions. The curriculum emphasizes evidence-based clinical reasoning, outcome-driven rehabilitation, leadership development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and lifelong learning. Residents also participate in teaching within Northwestern's Doctor of Physical Therapy program, contribute to research initiatives, and engage in scholarly activities under expert faculty mentorship. The residency is specifically structured to prepare graduates for the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) Neurologic Clinical Specialist (NCS) certification examination. Graduates pursue careers in academic medical centres, rehabilitation hospitals, research institutions, and specialised neurologic rehabilitation clinics.
