Master of Advanced Surgery (Breast Surgery)

Medical degree from the University of Sydney or equivalent.

For Breast Surgery stream: FRACS (or equivalent) or completion/ acceptance of breast surgery fellowship or minimum 3 years of breast surgery experience.

English language proficiency if applicable (for non-domestic applicants).

The Master of Advanced Surgery (Breast Surgery) is a specialist professional master’s designed for surgeons who have already completed general surgical training and are specialising in breast surgery. The curriculum is delivered online and/or blended, and covers core surgical topics such as basic sciences of breast disease, benign and malignant breast conditions, oncoplastic techniques, breast reconstruction, and multidisciplinary care within breast oncology.

It also includes elective units enabling further refinement of research, leadership, policy, or industry-tech skills relevant to breast surgery.

By completing this programme, surgeons enhance their clinical decision-making, oncoplastic surgical competency, and ability to participate in or lead multidisciplinary breast care teams. The collaboration with BreastSurgANZ ensures the curriculum aligns with advanced practice in Australia and New Zealand.

1. Verify eligibility: hold a recognised medical degree and meet stream-specific requirements (e.g., FRACS/equivalent or experience).
2. Prepare documentation: transcripts, proof of fellowship/training or experience in breast surgery, CV, and English proficiency if needed.
3. Submit application to the University of Sydney via the postgraduate admissions portal for the Master of Advanced Surgery (Breast Surgery).
4. The faculty reviews applications; offers are made to qualified applicants based on availability.
5. On offer acceptance, enrolment in the programme, and commencement of coursework (units of study) begin.
6. Candidates complete the required 48 credit points (12 capstone + 24 surgery selective + 12 elective) to qualify for the award.
