Fellowship Course in Breast Surgery

The Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship at UCSF School of Medicine is a one-year intensive clinical fellowship covering all aspects of general and oncology breast surgery. Fellows receive comprehensive training in breast disease diagnosis and treatment, breast oncology, pathology, mammography, ultrasound, MRI, image-guided biopsies, and multidisciplinary medical and radiation oncology. They take primary responsibility for the clinical breast service, participate in breast surgical procedures, multidisciplinary breast tumor boards, new-patient conferences, journal reviews, clinical research, and clinical trial development. The program also provides opportunities to present research at national meetings and collaborate with specialists across surgery, radiology, pathology, nuclear medicine, and oncology.

1. Prepare a personal statement expressing your intent to pursue a career in breast surgery
2. Submit an updated Curriculum Vitae (CV)
3. Submit 3 letters of recommendation
4. Provide proof of citizenship status or a copy of work authorization
5. Provide board certification documentation
6. Provide California medical license application documentation
7. Apply through the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) Matching Program, in which the UCSF Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship participates
8. Candidates are selected through the fellowship's application, interview, and matching process.
