The Breast Surgery Fellowship at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is a one-year multidisciplinary fellowship offered through the Division of Breast Surgery at the Lynn Sage Comprehensive Breast Center, one of the nation's leading academic breast centers. The fellowship is designed to expand the knowledge and operative skills acquired during general surgery residency through comprehensive exposure to every aspect of modern breast care. Fellows spend six months on dedicated breast surgical services, managing patients with benign breast disease, breast cancer, hereditary cancer syndromes, and high-risk breast conditions. The curriculum includes structured rotations in breast imaging, pathology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, genetics, and plastic and reconstructive surgery, ensuring a truly multidisciplinary educational experience. Fellows actively participate in weekly multidisciplinary treatment planning conferences, breast tumor boards, journal clubs, and educational sessions while contributing to clinical research and quality improvement initiatives. The Lynn Sage Comprehensive Breast Center evaluates more than 700 new breast cancer patients annually, offering fellows extensive exposure to complex breast diseases and advanced surgical techniques. Upon completion, graduates are well prepared for careers in academic breast surgery, breast surgical oncology, and leadership positions in multidisciplinary breast care.
