About Course

The Surgical Pathology Fellowship at the University of Minnesota Medical School is designed to prepare fellows for independent surgical pathology sign-out and leadership in academic or community practice. Training covers major subspecialties including GU/Soft Tissue & Bone, Gynecologic/Breast, GI/Liver, and ENT/Thoracic pathology, with elective opportunities in neuropathology, pediatric pathology, renal pathology, cytopathology, molecular pathology, dermatopathology, hematopathology, informatics, research, and frozen sections. Fellows progressively assume clinical responsibility and receive training in IHC, ISH, NGS, frozen-section diagnosis, digital pathology, quality improvement, consultation, teaching, and translational research.

Admission Process

Complete the University of Minnesota Fellowship Application Form.
Submit an updated CV.
Submit a letter of intent mentioning the fellowship, relevant experience, and career goals.
Submit USMLE or COMLEX scores (all steps).
Submit a copy of the medical diploma.
Submit 3 letters of recommendation.
International medical graduates must provide a valid ECFMG certificate and meet J-1 visa requirements, if applicable.
The program reviews complete applications and invites selected candidates for an interview.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis; the department recommends applying by October 1 of the year preceding the fellowship start date.
