Fellowship in Social and Global Emergency Medicine

• Must have completed an Emergency Medicine residency
• Must be board-certified or board-eligible in Emergency Medicine (ABEM)
• Must be eligible to work in the United States (U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident, or DACA recipient)
• Must submit Curriculum Vitae (CV)
• Must submit Personal Statement / Letter of Intent
• Must provide three Letters of Recommendation
• Should have interest or experience in Global Health, Social Emergency Medicine, or Health Equity

The Social & Global Emergency Medicine Fellowship at the University of Illinois College of Medicine (UIC), Chicago is a 2-year post-residency program that trains emergency physicians to become leaders in global health, social emergency medicine, and health equity. The fellowship integrates clinical emergency medicine practice with a Master of Public Health (MPH), enabling fellows to address social determinants of health and improve patient outcomes at both local and global levels. Fellows gain hands-on experience through community-based programs in Chicago, working with underserved populations, as well as international fieldwork opportunities involving clinical care, research, teaching, and health system development in resource-limited settings. The program also emphasizes research, policy, advocacy, and leadership development, preparing graduates for careers in academic emergency medicine, public health, and global health initiatives.
