Fellowship in Pediatric Nephrology

The Pediatric Nephrology Fellowship Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Heersink School of Medicine provides three years of specialized training in the diagnosis and management of kidney disorders in infants, children, and adolescents. Fellows gain clinical experience in hypertension, acute and chronic kidney disease, dialysis, kidney transplantation, fluid and electrolyte disorders, and other pediatric renal conditions. The program combines intensive clinical training with research and scholarly activities, with opportunities for experience in pediatric nephrology, renal pathology, urology, interventional nephrology, transplantation, and basic science research. Fellows also participate in teaching, multidisciplinary care, and academic activities to develop comprehensive expertise in pediatric kidney care.

1. Apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
2. Submit the ERAS Common Application Form.
3. Submit three letters of recommendation, including one from the Department Chair or Residency Program Director.
4. Submit United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Steps 1, 2, and 3 scores, or Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX) Levels 1, 2, and 3 scores, as applicable.
5. Submit a personal statement.
6. Submit an updated curriculum vitae and medical school transcript.
7. Submit all required documents through ERAS.
8. Sign the required National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Applicant Agreement and participate in the applicable fellowship Match.
9. Selected applicants proceed through the program's interview and selection process.
