Overview
The Pediatric Nephrology Fellowship Program at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is a three-year ACGME-accredited fellowship program designed to provide advanced clinical and academic training in the diagnosis and management of kidney disorders affecting infants, children, and adolescents. The program offers comprehensive exposure to inpatient and outpatient pediatric nephrology, including acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, nephrotic syndrome, renal tubular disorders, dialysis, and kidney transplantation. Fellows gain hands-on experience in hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, renal transplantation, renal biopsies, and dialysis-related procedures. The curriculum also emphasizes scholarly activity, clinical research, biostatistics, teaching skills, and quality improvement projects, preparing graduates for careers in academic pediatric nephrology and specialized clinical practice.

Eligibility
- Must hold an MD or DO degree (or equivalent medical degree such as MBBS)
- Must have completed or be completing an ACGME-accredited three-year Pediatric Residency Program
- Must be eligible for American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) certification
- Applicants must meet requirements for fellowship training in Pediatric Nephrology
- International Medical Graduates must fulfill ECFMG certification requirements and applicable visa requirements

- Medical school transcripts
- USMLE scores/transcripts
- ECFMG certificate (if applicable)

Admission Process:
- Apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)
- Register and participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Pediatric Subspecialty Match

- Applications are reviewed by the Pediatric Nephrology Fellowship Selection Committee
- Selected candidates are invited for interviews
- Final selection is completed through the fellowship match process
