About Course

The Nephrology Fellowship at NYU Grossman School of Medicine is a comprehensive ACGME-accredited training program designed to prepare physicians for leadership roles in clinical nephrology, academic medicine, and kidney research. The fellowship combines rigorous clinical education with strong mentorship and extensive research opportunities.
Fellows train across several prestigious institutions, including Tisch Hospital, Kimmel Pavilion, NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, the VA NY Harbor Healthcare System, and the NYU Langone Transplant Institute. This diverse training environment exposes fellows to a broad spectrum of kidney diseases and patient populations.
The program provides extensive experience in acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, glomerular diseases, electrolyte abnormalities, hypertension, dialysis, and transplantation. Fellows actively participate in the management of complex inpatient and outpatient nephrology cases.
A unique strength of the fellowship is its strong transplant nephrology experience. Fellows work closely with transplant nephrologists and transplant surgeons, gaining expertise in pre-transplant evaluations, post-transplant management, kidney transplant biopsies, and immunosuppressive therapies.
Procedural training includes temporary dialysis catheter placement, kidney biopsy interpretation, peritoneal dialysis management, continuous kidney replacement therapy, and other nephrology-related interventions. Fellows also participate in kidney pathology reviews with expert renal pathologists.
Research is a major component of the fellowship. During training, fellows select research mentors and develop projects in clinical nephrology, transplantation, hypertension, kidney physiology, health outcomes, or laboratory-based research. Protected research time is available during the second year, with an optional third research-focused year.
Educational activities include nephrology grand rounds, pathology conferences, board review sessions, journal clubs, multidisciplinary conferences, clinical case discussions, and research seminars. Fellows are encouraged to present scholarly work at national and international meetings.
Graduates are well prepared for careers in academic nephrology, transplant centers, private practice, clinical research, and advanced subspecialty training in transplant nephrology and related disciplines.
