Fellowship in Nephrology

• Must possess an MD or equivalent medical degree
• Must have successfully completed an ACGME or ACGME-I accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program in good standing (exceptional candidates may be considered under special circumstances)
• Applicants must be one of the following:
• U.S. Citizen
• Canadian Citizen
• U.S. Permanent Resident
• Eligible for J-1 Visa or H-1B Visa sponsorship
• International Medical Graduates (IMGs) must have completed required examinations, including one of the following:
• Foreign Medical Graduate Examination in the Medical Sciences (FMGEMS)
• National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) examinations
• United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Steps 1 and 2
• Applicants should demonstrate strong clinical training, academic performance, and interest in nephrology practice and research

The Nephrology Fellowship Program at the University of Illinois College of Medicine (UICOM), Chicago is a two-year ACGME-accredited fellowship program designed to provide advanced clinical training in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of kidney diseases. The program prepares fellows for careers in academic medicine, clinical nephrology, and research by providing comprehensive exposure to inpatient and outpatient nephrology services. Fellows manage a wide range of renal conditions including acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, electrolyte and acid-base disorders, glomerular diseases, dialysis care, and kidney transplantation. Training is conducted across three major healthcare settings: University of Illinois Hospital, Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, and John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, allowing fellows to gain experience with diverse patient populations and complex kidney disorders. The curriculum includes clinical rotations, nephrology consultations, dialysis management, outpatient continuity clinics, conferences, and research opportunities. An optional third year is available for fellows interested in focused research training and academic careers.
