The Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is a one-year ACGME-accredited program dedicated to preparing psychiatrists for leadership in the mental healthcare of older adults. Fellows receive comprehensive training across inpatient, outpatient, consultation-liaison, and long-term care settings, caring for patients with a broad spectrum of psychiatric and neurocognitive disorders. The curriculum emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration with geriatricians, neurologists, psychologists, social workers, and rehabilitation specialists to deliver holistic, patient-centered care. Fellows gain expertise in psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, capacity assessment, and the management of behavioral symptoms associated with dementia. Opportunities for teaching, research, quality improvement, and advocacy are integrated throughout the program. Through close mentorship from experienced faculty and exposure to diverse clinical settings, graduates are well prepared for careers in academic medicine, community practice, and leadership roles in geriatric mental health.
