The Geriatric Medicine Fellowship at UAB Heersink School of Medicine provides comprehensive training in the evaluation and management of older adults with complex medical, functional, cognitive, and psychosocial needs. Fellows gain clinical experience across inpatient and outpatient geriatric settings, including hospital services, geriatric clinics, Veterans Affairs facilities, long-term care, rehabilitation, and home-based care. Training covers comprehensive geriatric assessment, dementia, falls and mobility, polypharmacy, chronic disease management, functional impairment, post-acute care, and palliative care. The fellowship also provides opportunities for multidisciplinary teamwork, research, quality improvement, teaching, and scholarly activities, preparing fellows for clinical practice and leadership in geriatric medicine.
