Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine

1. Must have completed an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited residency in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
2. Must be able to begin the fellowship on July 1.
3. International applicants must hold a valid J-1 visa.
4. Applicants requiring a new or continuing H-1B visa are not accepted.

The Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine provides advanced training in the care of older adults, including the management of complex medical conditions, dementia, and age-related health concerns. Fellows gain clinical experience in hospitals, outpatient clinics, long-term care, and palliative care settings. UC San Diego School of Medicine is part of the University of California San Diego, a public research university in California. Its Division of Geriatrics, Gerontology and Palliative Care combines clinical training, medical education, and research to prepare physicians to improve the health and quality of life of older adults.

1. Complete the application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
2. Submit an updated curriculum vitae.
3. Provide a personal statement.
4. Submit a letter from the residency program director and two additional letters of recommendation.
5. Provide the medical school Dean's Letter and medical school transcripts.
6. International medical graduates must submit United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) transcripts and the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) Status Report.
7. Register for the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and participate in the fellowship match.
8. Attend the interview if shortlisted. Interviews for the 2027–2028 fellowship cycle are planned to be conducted virtually in September and October.
