Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine

1. Must have completed an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) accredited residency in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine before starting the fellowship.
2. Must be certified or actively pursuing board certification in the primary specialty.
3. Must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of California.
4. Must be a United States citizen, permanent resident, or J-1 visa holder.
5. Stanford does not sponsor international medical graduates requiring an H-1B visa.
6. International medical graduates must provide the required Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) documentation.

Stanford Medicine Health Care (SHC) is an academic healthcare institution affiliated with Stanford University, providing advanced patient care, medical education, and clinical research. It offers comprehensive medical training through its clinical and academic programs across multiple specialties. The Geriatric Medicine Fellowship is a one-year program designed to provide advanced training in the comprehensive care of older adults. Fellows gain clinical experience across inpatient and outpatient settings, including geriatric clinics, long-term care, home-based care, palliative care, rehabilitation, memory care, and geriatric psychiatry. The program also provides opportunities for teaching, quality improvement, patient safety, and research related to aging and geriatric healthcare.

1. Submit the application electronically through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
2. Submit a completed ERAS application.
3. Provide a current Curriculum Vitae.
4. Submit a one-page personal statement describing interest in Geriatric Medicine.
5. Submit three letters of recommendation, including one from the residency program director.
6. Submit United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) or Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX) scores for Steps 1, 2, and 3.
7. Upload a photograph.
8. International medical graduates must provide a valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate.
9. Register with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), as the program fully participates in the Match.
10. Participate in Stanford candidate interviews, generally conducted from August through October.
11. Certify the rank order list by the November deadline.
12. Successful applicants participate in Match Day in December, complete onboarding in January, and begin the fellowship in July.
